The main question I tend to get from hacker-types is "what are the tech specs?". The demos run on a Mac with custom software I built for projection mapping/rendering/etc. (the hand tracking uses Apple's built-in framework, which is very good), a small consumer 4k laser projector, and a basic webcam for vision.

The URL is the app165728“I had the idea for BIGWORDS.PAGE when I wanted to display a message on a tablet that I had remote management control over, but no physical access. Configuring it to be a kiosk browser is easy, but how do I get the browser to show my message? So I made the URL be the message.
It uses a URL fragment to configure the message. Browsers don't send URL fragments to the server, so I never see your message. There's no backend, and no storage.
All parameters are documented, so generating a message link is easy. There's also a built-in editor to make it extra easy.

There are a few extra features like slides, animations, and countdowns and timers. QR codes too. Not too fancy, but hopefully enough to be useful.

Just to clarify - This started as just an experiment to see if we can use the fact that text and audio share a vector space in Embedding Gemma 2 to convert audio to text. Had to hack around a few things, but, it worked. Speed was just a side benefit. Was not aiming for it.
The accuracy is good, but not in the range of cloud models, but decent enough for everyday use, and this is just a couple of days work. The WER can improve a lot with more training on varied data. Will try that next.
I will opensource the whole thing soon. Might need a few days though. Also, releasing the TTS version for this soon.

Open source means you can modify, rebuild, and re-distribute the code and the resulting app. Open weights you can do two of those things - you can modify and re-distributed. They can't be re-built, since you're missing the original training data - but they are a form of open that exists somewhere between open source and closed source. Derivative works are allowed, but the source material isn't available.
I don't see people complaining about creative commons licensed images or audio being "not real open source", and open weight models seem about the same as that to me.” — kennywinker
